ABOUT

Hvítahús is a residency program for artists and an art gallery. It's located just next to the Snæfellsnesþjóðgarður National Park. Our residency program started in 2012. The program offers artists and other creatives to reside at our Hvitahus for 1-2 month period. Hvitahus gives artists the desired space to get creative in a different environment. We provide you with a home away from home, without the distractions of everyday life. The house is surrounded by astonishing landscapes, special sea biosphere and bird life, giving the artists the perfect opportunity for inspiration. The Hvítahús was restored in 2010 by Steingerdur Johannsdottir and Arni Emanuelsson. It includes a fully equipped residency floor with a bedroom, toilet, kitchen and living room, a 30m² double-height studio/ exhibition hall and gallery facilities. Hvítahús was originally an ice storage (íshús), and is now the only remaining building from the old Krossavik harbour. The recently renovated Hvitahús preserves its original characteristics and structure.

The owners of the Hvítahús are:

Elva Hreidarsdóttir (Printmaker and Teacher) & Halldór Eyjolfsson (Graphic Designer).
